Customs Clearance and Logistics of Art Objects and Collector’s Items
What kind of specificities and intricacies could be in these operations? You think none? Wrong! It is not possible to compare the delivery of equipment with the delivery of late 18th century Dutch paintings.
The differences are in logistical support and specificity of customs clearance.
For example, one scratch on an art object appeared at delivery or loading may cost your company or you personally several million dollars in damages. That’s why at transportation of paintings and photos we use special transportation frames that allow the masterpiece to be practically suspended, as well as to keep the special microclimate, optimal at transportation.
Upon your request we can use special motor vehicles that provide especially soft ride in our far from perfect road conditions. During the whole period of transportation the temperature and humidity necessary for your art objects are kept.
If necessary we can organize the storage of especially valuable objects from your collection in a specialized depository in Switzerland.
Naturally, the type of packing and delivery completely depend on the value of an art object and your request.
As for customs clearance in Ukraine there are, naturally, certain intricacies. They depend on the type of customs regime (import, export, and temporary import-export) and the objects themselves.
In some cases it is necessary to use the help of experts from Ministry of Culture that attend the procedure of screening together with customs officer, inspector of Smuggling Control Department, and, in some cases, with the taxation officer, and then issue the necessary authorization documents
When doing the customs clearance of stage props there is specificity - a long, sometimes amounting up to several dozens pages, list of the theatrical property, tight schedule, and a necessity to get permission for import/export of certain type of props.
